Who We Are

Introducing the Authority's board members and the management team.

The Board

The seven members of the Authority's Board are appointed by the Minister of Finance. They are:

Tim McGuinness Chairman

Tim McGuinness

Tim McGuinness (appointed to the Board in 2001 and as Chairman in 2008) is currently a trustee of the Police Superannuation Scheme, NZ Fire Service Scheme, Globus NZ Pension Plan and the NZ Qualifications Authority Superannuation Scheme, and Chairman of trustees of the Dairy Industry Superannuation Scheme and the Fonterra Superannuation Scheme. He previously held senior investment management positions at Royal & Sun Alliance and Norwich Union Investment Management.

David May Deputy Chairman

David May

David May (appointed 2001) was formerly Chief Executive of Jacques Martin NZ Ltd and Managing Director of Colonial Life NZ Ltd. He is Chairman of the Guardians of New Zealand Superannuation and a director of Southern Cross Healthcare.

Steve Napier

Steve Napier

Steve Napier (appointed 2008) is principal of Whakatane based sharebrokers, Steve Napier Ltd.  He previously held senior investment management positions with Colonial First State Investments.

Keith Taylor

Keith Taylor

Keith Taylor (appointed 2008) is a Board member of the Earthquake Commission, Takeovers Panel and New Zealand Qualifications Authority and a director of Gough, Gough and Hamer Limited and Butlands Management Services Limited.  He was previously Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tower Limited and prior to that held a number of senior management roles in Tower and its predecessor, Government Life.

Mark Verbiest

Mark Verbiest

Mark Verbiest (appointed 2009) was a member of Telecom's senior executive team between 2000 and 2008. He is also a director of AMP Haumi Management Limited (manager of the AMP NZ Office Trust), Freightways Limited, Southern Cross Medical Care Society, Willis Bond Capital Partners Limited, Chairman of Aptimize Limited and a Trustee of Southern Cross Healthcare Trust.  He is also a member of the Securities Commission and a consultant to national law firm Simpson Grierson.

Susie Weaver

Suzie Weaver

Susie Weaver (appointed 2001) is a principal of Weaver Consulting Limited and former General Manager of Investments at Armstrong Jones (now ING (NZ)).

Toni Kerr

Toni Kerr

Toni Kerr (appointed 2009) is the Treasury Operations Manager of Kiwibank Limited. She previously held a number of senior management roles in BNP Paribas based in Hong Kong, and has considerable experience in banking and wealth management.

Management Team

Alan Langford Chief Executive

Alan Langford

Responsible for the effective, efficient and economical management of the activities and planning for the Authority, and for the identification and implementation of appropriate strategies for the Authority to meet its obligations under the Act, and its objectives.

Euan Wright Chief Financial Officer

Euan Wright

Responsible for the prudent management of the financial, accounting and taxation obligations of the Authority and the Fund and for the financial reporting of both organisations. In addition, he acts as the Secretary to the Board of the Authority.

Philippa Drury General Manager, Schemes

Philippa Drury

Responsible for the overall management of the GSF Schemes in terms of the GSF Act, management of the performance of the Schemes Administrator and development of policy advice for the Authority with respect to the GSF Schemes.

Paul Bevin General Manager, Investments

Paul Bevin

Responsible for the development of policy and strategy relating to the investments of the Fund.

Janet Shirley Manager, Schemes

Janet Shirley

Responsible for assisting the General Manager, Schemes with the overall management of the GSF Schemes.

Peter McCaffrey Manager, Special Projects

Peter McCaffrey

Responsible for manager selection and portfolio construction, with emphasis on improving portfolio risk and return efficiency.

Nicky Rumsey Manager, Investments

Nicky Rumsey

Responsible for managing and monitoring the performance of the investment managers and the custodian to ensure best practice.
